THE BADGE OF LIFE - We are a group of active and retired police officers, medical professionals and surviving families of suicides from the United States and Canada.  We have suffered the worst that posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) brings—the hopelessness, the despair, the flashbacks, the attempts at suicide, the nightmares and insomnia, the hypervigilence, anxiety and terror. Among us are victims of both critical incident and cumulative PTSD.

DRUG REHAB WITH PTSD - Frequently co-occurring among people with substance use disorders, PTSD is a debilitating mental disorder that affects people who have lived through a traumatic event or prolonged trauma. Simultaneous treatment for substance use disorders and PTSD has been shown to alleviate symptoms of both disorders and often is the only lifeline to save people drowning in the afflictions of the disorders.

When Cops Kill: The Aftermath of a Critical Incident

by Lance LoRusso, H4H Board Member

"When Cops Kill" takes you through an officer involved shooting and the years after. What does it mean to be sued as a law enforcement officer? What will happen during the internal affairs investigation? Should you speak with the homicide division? Will the state licensing agency investigate as well? How will you handle the media coverage and public attention? Lance removes the fear of the unknown and replaces that fear with the power that comes from knowledge and understanding. Profits from the sales of "When Cops Kill" will benefit law enforcement charities such as Hunting for Heroes focused on Suicide Prevention Awareness.

"Support. Compassion. Brotherhood. Those are just a few words of what H4H offers us daily and for that I will be forever grateful."

Hearts Beneath the Badge

by Karen Solomon

Hearts Beneath the Badge is a unique compilation of interviews with officers across the country. It's not about the crimes they witness or the judgment they face; it's about them - Damien, Danny, Frances, Ken, Pamela, Brian, and more. Their thoughts, their fears, their proud moments and their heartbreak. It's about the people we often don't see because we are blinded by the uniform.
